 May In Review 2022

Pre: Hello all, at this point in my silly little blog journey I truly was not sure about how to continue going about my posts. I think there's a lot of change and alterations I want to make in my media and how seamless and easy it will be across platforms. Like I would love to re issue all of my forms of entertainment into one place. This is a very me I am rambling kind of moment but I wanted to give some insight to all those who do read my blog and have been patiently waiting for the monthly updates! For those of you that are here and reading I cant thank you enough, and just a heads up my point of notice and updates may be transferred. and I hope to have all your support in the future. Now lets get into some music!

I needed to be honest with you guys in order to fully be able to continue this blog and re write about these past few months! Summer has been so fun but also full of so many challenges and it has strayed my focus and desires, but I made a promise to myself and I now that I am at a place again that I enjoy, want, and need to talk about things I am here!  May in music, "reflecting back" was so quiet but it a very beautiful way, so many records were more on the chill aspect of sound but was all about a beautiful build and it really set the stage for summer and its expectations.

Singles

Lets start with Kygo's single release of the song Freeze this song set the perfect pre summer vibe of the season, its the definition of a slow build, beautiful track, being 8 minutes long it really allowed kygo to set himself free in what he was looking for, its a song that sounds like exploring in the night sky, it rises and builds and allows itself to not be too massive so that you want to go back in and listen all over. Ultimately its how May felt in its entirety.

The other single that gave this relaxed build was the return of My Chemical Romance, with their track Foundations of Decay, This was such a beautiful return for the band and a very unexpected surprise, with the anticipation of a tour run pre covid the band did something they never planned and we as fans never expected! THEY REUNITED AND MADE A SONG! not that this teases a new album but it was really nice to see that they made a really good song together in the midst of what was taken away and they have actively made a effort to do something special and continue the reunited tour for fans. Unlike other artists that attempted and have decided not to make any active efforts of getting back together. MCR really did something with their time.

Misterwives is the final on this list of singles, who lovingly dropped two singles, Easy & Where do we go from here, the thing about MW is you really cant get a bad song out of them, each new era is so well thought out of and amped with joy and positivity while also talking about some real shit and its just enjoyable to be a part of. Easy was a track that seemed to be a stray off of the last album Super bloom but segways perfectly into guiding fans into their next era, and WDWGFH was this insane and unexpected amped up jam. Both songs are so relationship driven that you cant help to understand and also feel comforted by what they are saying, especially when you share a relatable experience to it. the fun in MV is that they do regularly release and this time around its been calming to get music when it comes between stepped on a bee last year, their cover of dreams these songs and upcoming singles the have offered quite a blast.

Albums

May began with the full release of Florence & the Machines full album Dance Fever, DF is a very special record and it honestly came out much sooner than anticipated! I was worried Florence would be in hiding for a couple of additional years so it was a pleasant surprise to live her new era in full so soon. The record evicts a feeling of myth, things that may be true or untrue, or even too grand to feel real. Something that florence knows all to well to allow in her music. I absolutely loved this record, it was such a healthy balance of playfulness, sadness, love and grandeur. I hopefully cannot wait to see her bring this record to life on tour.

Next up we have Arcade Fire's WE an insanely beautiful album! The last time we heard any AF was in 2017 and this might be one of the longest comebacks in awhile from any of the mentioned artists this year so far, and AF didn't hold back, from the beautiful cover of the eye to the entire message of the record it is seamless beautiful and massively cohesive. this truly was one of my favorite records of the year so far and I want to save all of its little details for everyone's own listening experiences, there are so many timeless moments in that body of work that deserves a good listen and its my highest recommendation of the year so far! I only wish there was more.

Next up is Umi's debut album Forest in the City, a title that massively stands out. its so unique this record from the way it waswritten, to its simplicity in visuals, umi has such an artistic eye and a play on shapes in her formats, even the colors on her website to the era is quite unmatched and it led towards this beautiful soulful record of r&b jams and vibes. this record surely was something special. its full of love and health. <3

Last but not least the most popular of music in the month of may was Harrys House! This record was also quite the surpise as Fine Line was so recent but this record was so needed! It was positive, it was playful and warm, it was also very healthy and healing. Harry was so honest in his lyrics and used so many sounds to evict the feelings he was describing and it was translated so well even on the first listen of the record. Its really nice to go back to this one and enjoy what he created its a world worth living in if you can! Also not to mention how hard it is for the pop boys to do something this strong so this record truly felt one of a kind.
